We would love to welcome you to St Peter’s to mark these life events with you. To help us make sure your celebration goes as smoothly as possible, do contact us as early as possible in the process, before choosing a date or making any other arrangements.

Baptisms

Baptism is the way that we make a public commitment to follow Jesus. Baptism is sometimes called Christening, particularly when it’s a baby that’s being baptised. Baptisms can take place during our Sunday service at the Lincolnshire Poacher Pub or if you prefer we can arrange a baptism at St Peter in Eastgate Church.

Baptism is a celebration – for the individual, their family and the Church family into which they are welcomed – and we aim to reflect this in our Baptism services. During the service, the person being baptised affirms their Christian faith and declares their intention to live life as a follower of Jesus and take their place within the Christian community. When a baby or young child is baptised, their parents and God-parents make these statements on behalf of the child, and promise to help him or her ‘grow into’ them as they get older.

Many parents are not sure they can yet make these commitments to Christian faith, Christian marriage and church membership with integrity; nonetheless they would like to mark the birth of a child with a public ceremony. The alternative ceremony of Thanksgiving for the Birth of a Child is very appropriate for this, and we are very happy to do this in one of our morning services for all who ask.

Weddings

Christian Marriage is a public commitment to a lifelong relationship between a man and a woman. We love weddings at St.Peter’s. While there is no church building in St Peter in Carlton parish in which you can get married, people living in the parish of St Peter in Carlton are able to marry at St Peter in Eastgate Church, near the Cathedral.

There is, of course, a legal element to the ceremony, including the signing of the Registers at the service but, above all, weddings are a celebration and we aim to reflect this in our wedding services. For us, the vows are all important. Every spring we offer marriage preparation to help couples think through the rich meaning of the vows and help you plan your service.

Funerals

Funerals

When someone dies, there’s so much to think about and so much to organise. We understand how difficult this can be, but we can help you say your final goodbye in a way that really helps.
